Monday, the 20th day of the month of June of the year 1575. v I, Juan Alvaro, citizen here in the district of Apçolco, now very voluntarily give everything found at my house, including the two-story building and all my house-land, to our dear father fray Francisco de Loaysa, vicar, who is in charge of the holy church. I have taken the price that my house and house-land made, 140 pesos in cash; I have very gladly received all the money. And the two children I have, first Juan Alvaro, and Ana Elvira, are never to bring suit, because all my property is still in my hands; I will decide what I will give them, because it is not their property and possession, for it was truly with my fatigue and effort that I acquired it and put it together. I bought everything concerning my houses and lands; for the first person, I exchanged my land with the lady doña Juana at Xochimilco [Omatzaqualli]. Second, I bought land from Catalina, an old woman, citizen of Omac; I gave her son-in-law 7 pesos. Third, I bought land from Alonso Pérez, butcher of Apçolco; I gave him 4 pesos. Fourth, I bought land at Tenanitlan from Miguel Cortés Huecamecatl; I gave him 22 pesos in cash. Fourth [sic], I exchanged two strips of my land with Lorenzo, child of Diego, citizen of Omaxac. The fifth person is named Marcos Feliciano, citizen of Apçolco; I exchanged one strip of my land with him. These are all five [sic] of the landowners from whom I bought land and with whom I exchanged land; wherefore none of the children is ever again, far into the future, to say anything, for the above-mentioned that I have sold is truly all my property and possession; and I have indeed taken and received in my hands 140 pesos in cash; the father vicar gave it to me, and the money was brought out in the presence of those who became witnesses, with señor Antón Gómez, Spaniard, citizen of Coyoacan, and in the presence of señor don Toribio [Silvestre], fiscal; Vicente Ramírez and Baltasar Pérez, constables of the church; Marcos Feliciano, notary of the church; Antón Sánchez, tepisque in Apçolco; etc. And I relinquish entirely all the household appurtenances I had, the doors and locks and everything, and will no longer take anything, except that in this coming year I will harvest my former house-land. I Juan Alvaro put here my signature of a cross in order to verify my words. I verified it: Tomás Feliciano, notary. + witness. Don Toribio Silvestre. Vicente Ramírez, constable of the church. Baltasar Pérez, constable of the church. Witness, Josef Jacobo. Tomás Feliciano, notary. [Translation by James Lockhart]
